Promoting Education

As a retired teacher who taught at Frankfort High School and as a former chairman of the House Education Committee, I know how important it is that our public schools have the resources and support they need and deserve. I have been a tireless advocate for our students, educators, and school staff, making sure their voice is heard and acted upon.

Protecting Public Pensions:

I have been at the forefront of ensuring our public retirement systems are secure and that our retirees have the financial stability they deserve. I proudly stood with thousands of teachers, public workers, concerned citizens, and many of my legislative colleagues as we fought the passage of pension “reform.” I sponsored legislation requiring a cost of living raise for our state government retirees and will continue to advocate for this measure.

Standing up for Kentuckians:

For too long now, state employees have been forced to do more with less, even as we see hundreds of millions of dollars being spent annually on personal service contracts and favored employees get rewarded with high salaries and steep raises. Early in the session I filed a bill to increase state employee salaries and voted for the eight percent raise that ultimately passed the General Assembly.
